What of It?

Greetings All.

To any who are willing to avail themselves of opportunity one may find them in the dawning of the new day.

Cliches; described as hackneyed expressions, abound and while some are considered stale and overused there is still much to gain from their meaning and use. The jaundiced eye will overlook them in search of the newest descriptive expressions while one with clear sight does not discard the tried and true, but adds the new to the old and thus has an unlimited, mixed bag of which to draw from. What is the importance of cliches that I would go to the trouble of bringing them to your attention? Just this: cliches are an acceptable form of language communication that can be employed in several ways, to make a point; as analogies; to claim attention when the ordinary has less impact; as humorous witticism; as droll commentary, and a host of other uses. The point is that cliches are useful in many circumstances when nothing else 'fits the bill'.

'May the wind be at your back' and 'Walk the way the wind blows' infers profound meaning to struggles such as fighting an 'uphill battle' or 'spitting in the wind', non? The same could be said if one is determined to 'go against the odds'. But I think you get the picture. As we have cliches, we also have jargon (specialized language) that is often lost on the majority but makes complete sense to a particular minority. Ah, some of you are picking up the thread of the gist of this exercise.

The common thread between the two, cliche and jargon, is obvious (or should be). Both are made-up, products of the minds of seekers of better communicative ways, outside the ordinary. Seekers are learners and doers; never satisfied with the mundane or the ordinary, and their minds are constantly at work figuring out new and oft bold ways to put across thoughts, feelings, and emotions that cannot be otherwise understood but by out of the ordinary, descriptive terms. Their method is extraordinarily effective (though the language arts community would have us think otherwise since they are geared to rules of speech), and where is the harm in that? At worst, I suppose one given to the use of cliches and/or jargon could be considered bereft of the usage of proper language forms.

What is proper and what is not? One cannot (although many try) fit what is proper and what is not to one entire society and other societies. No mystery there. As our world is a 'mixed bag' of cultures and Kinds, propriety for one cannot be shoved down the throats of all and therefore all must be tolerant of others' mores ( I am referring to that which harms none, so refrain from haring off the beaten path).

And now we stand at the crossroad of mores, morals, values, and ethics. 'Four way stop', if you will but only two paths of choice. Which way to go; which way does the wind blow; how to test the wind? Be you narrow minded or open minded? Choice or lot? Tried and true, or untried and unknown? Seek the new or keep to the old? 'Bide your time' or 'Toss caution to the wind'?

Seekers step forward and 'may the wind be at your back', as you join those of us with a propensity for discovery. Meet and greet, learn, teach, and welcome for 'the world will not stand still'. Embrace the new and the old for 'the twain have met' and 'all is as it should'. There only remains to recognize it, to put name and face upon it. Cliche or jargon, old or new; give it your all. (Clue; the game begins.) Ponder.

Bonjour mes amies,
Aye, and a new game is begun (Dream Teller rarely gives specific clues). Take from today's posting, check back in Dream Teller's archives for this blog, and use what you will to play to win. The game will end at midnight, December 31st, 2004 and the winner will be announced in the new years day post. Good luck and fair warning. And now to answer some of our e-mail.

To Caron in Iowa: I have heard such whisperings but have not been able to verify them. Whether true or not heed your instincts. If there is truth in them you are best served by leaving well enough alone. Martyrdom is a heavy price to pay when there is no valid reason to put yourself in that position. Blessed May You Be.

To the Catholic priest in Vermont: By no stretch of the imagination. All Witches are not Pagans although they practice some rituals considered of pagan origins by Christian standards. Those Witches who hold sway with Christian faiths, or with dual faiths, Pagan and Christian, are merely clear-minded. What some Christians are blind to is that those who possess certain unique abilities do not view those as tools of the devil but gifts endowed them by their Creator, and thus those gifts are meant to be embraced as a natural part of them and used for the good of all. What evil is there in the one who has the ability to see into the mind of a homicidal maniac and assist law enforcement in their efforts to capture that maniac? What evil exists in the one who is able to foretell coming events? What evil lurks behind what is used for the good, whatever the manner of sight or hearing? With all due respect to the teachings contained within Christian bibles, as with any parable, psalm, or verse, mankind is notorious for reading into those what suits one's specific purpose. Granted, each faith has its basic beliefs and philosophy but one must remember that each of us is endowed with choice and a mind to reason. Do the Christian commandments not state that one shall not bear false witness against one's neighbor? To call out a Witch and bar him/her from worshipping in a Christian house of God, merely on the face of being a Witch, smacks of a sin against that commandment. I say to you, father, as those claims brought you by members of your congregation are in your own words unsubstantiated, by the condemners own admissions, is that not bearing false witness? As you sought my advice, I am given to think that you have already asked yourself the questions I have posed. I am given to wonder why a Catholic priest would seek the counsel of one such as me, who preaches acceptance of all faiths. What say you against the one who by your own admission finds shelter and solace in your house of worship, one who is there every Sunday and holy day -faithful to the Catholic faith? Will you condemn a faithful servant on the whim of a few who present themselves as judges of those whom they have not the right to judge, or will you have the courage to back down those prejudiced against one who has done them no harm? Sinners come in every shape, size, and color; from every walk of life, and me thinks you have a handful of them urging you to condone their sins. I hope I have given you food for thought. Ponder father, and may your God show you the right path. Blessed May You Be.

To Maralyn in Canada: 'Tis not a matter of deceipt but of the deceiver who perpetrates such an act upon the unsuspecting. Steer wide and clear of such an ambassador of evil, for there is nothing to be gained and much to lose. Confrontation will only bring danger upon your head. You cannot rescue one who has no wish to be rescued. The Black Arts and Black Majic are alive and well and it is not uncommon for different Kinds bent on destruction to join forces and pool their efforts to accomplish their evil goals. Evil begets evil, and those who thrive on it are magnets for one another, regardless of the practices specific to each of them and of their Kind. So nay, it is not uncommon to find a Warlock and a Vampyre working together. Stay away, stay away, for you cannot know if they are true of their Kind or role-players. Either of those is dangerous; one on the supernatural level, the other on the earthly level. Blessed May You Be.

To Clint in California: Your state is not the only one plagued with masses of people who have turned a blind eye to morals and values and follow public figures like lambs being led to the slaughter. Who but one's Creator knows why one is so weak-minded and weak-willed that one will blindly accept the words and ways, and idolize movie and rock stars who perpetuate the ideas that the use of harmful substances, mutilation of one's body (to achieve more physical beauty), money, greed, acts against laws of society, and so on, are acceptable? From the beginning of time there have been followers of false idols and we know the outcome of those trips. I venture to guess that people are led astray by desire to achieve the unobtainable, have what is not theirs to have; desire of such strength that they are willing to be led, used, and abused then tossed aside. Power, money, and greed drive the idolized but it is the idolizers who afford them those and makes the effort possible, for the idols' power lies in allure. Sadly, the lured believe the idols' claims that it is 'normal' to seek enjoyment in any manner and for any purpose. Why else would one thumb their nose at their Creator and seek to change their given looks and shape for the purpose of using that 'purchased beauty' as a means to a tawdry end? I find it odd that people wonder where things went wrong when they not only behave in such manners but teach their children the same. The world is full of followers who fail to think for themselves, who live in the moment, for the moment. Life is but a moment in time and one can only hope that when one's life ends, one has had the time to repent one's sins of failure. Blessed May You Be.

Ponder, Dream Teller.
