Purgation or Perdition, Benevolence or Malice
Greetings All.
At this time I am pleased to turn over today's duty of posting to one whom I venture to say you will find most interesting. Friend, confidant, counselor, is my guest. The Vampyre Garth is an Ancient with the wisdom of 2000-plus years to recommend him. I think you will find he is easily adaptable to most things and as he is a forward thinker and looker, he embraces a modern outlook with the wisdom of age to stand him well in this society. Meet and greet Garth.
Hello and good tidings. I'm pleased for this opportunity to visit with you. In all fairness I warn you of my penchant for being out-spoken, a tad vain (okay, maybe a little more than a tad), bold, occasionally obnoxious, thick skinned, and not the least shy about broaching subjects some consider taboo. With that in mind, I offer you leave to take me as you will.
Since being made Vampyre, every year of my existence has been fraught with the dangers common to my state of being. I learned early on that my feelings were of no consequence to those who, throughout the ages, looked down upon my Kind as evil abominations and that no matter what I said or did to improve my image, nothing was going to change those narrow minds. So be it. That mind-set continues to this day but in the past century the tide has begun slowly turning but never more-so than in the beginning of this new millineum. I'm watching and listening as definite changes take shape, courtesy of modern pioneers who forge new trails into the heretofore unknown. Their quiet determination to make this world a better place for all is without fail, and those of us shut out of society in the past are both thankful for their efforts and humbled by their unrelenting drive to succeed.
These modern day pioneers possess intelligence, courage, and strength of mind and will uncommon in a world on the brink of disaster. While mankind's wars rage around the globe, democracies rise and fall; tyranny sucks the life from whole nations of people; and scores of people fall into the mindless pits of substance abuse, there are those who go on in the face of those disasters armed with little more than their belief that the world belongs to all. Were it not for them...
But back to me. There is enjoyment to be found if one seeks it. I do so in what some would call ridiculous ways but to me 'ridiculous' is in the minds of those without benefit of humor and foresight; a mere personal interpretation. The way I see it one must be adaptable, able to evolve with the times, take what is offered and fit within it. It is a matter of choice and no more or less. For that reason I have worn many faces; a chosen image and lifestyle to suit whatever society I intend to merge with. I have a particular fondness for the United States, most particularly, southern ways and customs and therefore I have adopted the languages, accents, and attire common to the areas.
I confess a fondness for the laid back style of jeans and boots (yep, I own an inordinate number of pairs of both) when formal attire isn't required. On the other hand I am equally fond of formal wear, suits and tuxes, when the occassion requires. I'm a fool for music and dancing and I like the close, personal contact dancing affords; preferably, of the waltz variety. I've found the people of Louisiana, particularly Cajuns, to be the most fun-loving, open-minded lot to date but I'm always on the outlook for others, and Texans run a close second.
Kaithlin is looking over my shoulder and teasing me about the image I'm projecting (a blonde Vampyre clad in western wear, dancing the two-step) but hey, I rather like the image. And just for the record, Miss Fontenot is not above cutting a rug with me on the occassion that we find ourselves at the same function (of course that is when my lovely wife gives us her blessing).
Wife? You bet, and my first in all the years of my existence. My Jessie-girl is the bane of my existence (scratch the crap that Vampyres are notoriously lacking in the ability to form monogamous relationships, and with other Kinds) and it is to her that I owe my will to survive. She provides me with love, warmth, care, understanding, and all the other things the male of any species needs in life. Jessica is a mortal; a lovely Witch of Cajun descent with remarkable talents and the ability to see beyond the obvious, into the hearts and minds of those, like me, who are without country, people, and a place to call their own. I have those now and all because of a young woman who refused to to be frightened off by what I am. God, how I love that woman.
God? Surprise, surprise. Yes, I believe in a higher power; no, I don't believe He abandoned me, anymore; no, I don't believe I am without soul; yes, the both of us attend church and pray for the salvation of our souls. Midnight mass at Christmas has a special meaning for us (for we both have roots in the Catholic faith) so you see, Vampyres and Witches don't go up in flames upon entering a house of Christian worship.
Alas, the dawn is on the horizon and I must seek my rest. I hope I have given you food for thought and that some of you, however few or many, will accept the hand of friendship I, and others like me, extend to you and yours. Be safe, Garth.
