Bonjour mes amies.

Many of you may well be thinking that we at Dream Teller's Lair have lost interest in publishing to our Blog. Nothing could be further from the truth. We are, simply, so very busy with all that comes our way. I recently posed the question regarding 'Fear' to the Warlock Gregory, one whom I never considered to fear anything or anyone. How wrong I was. Here is what he had to say.

"Fear 'tis a feeling no one of us can escape, though the source of it will naturally differ from person to person." That, coming from the Master Warlock, most certainly begged the question I put to him. Given who you are and what you do, and your strengths, are there things you fear? His answer:

Fear is derived of many and varied sources; some known, others unknown. In and of itself, fear is intangible yet, without question, is sensed and/or felt. No one, human or otherwise, is exempt though many who consider themselves above all others will deny experiencing fear. Just because one is possessed of greater strengths or powers than others does no' make one immune. Some will think themselves immune while they and others will voice that belief but fear is universal to all Kinds. One might wonder at that; wonder why, for instance, an Immortal would 'fear' anything or any situation. As we have discussed here before, immortality is a much deceiving term. Any living Being can be destroyed; life ended.

'Tis the very nature of longevity or immortality which most often leads to the demise of one with such an extended existence. Because ending such an existence requires much more than those circumstances that easily end the life of a Human, other Beings tend to tempt the Fates; take risks far out of what is considered a safe existence.

Humans actually have a greater sense of self-worth, a greater desire to exist, and a better understanding of what is safe than other Beings. Certainly there are Humans with skewed concepts of safety, or the lack there of, but the general majority understand what is required to maintain a safe existence. 'Tis their fear of natural disasters, accidents, and debilitating illnesses that lead them to dwell well within the parameters of safety as much as they can.

Due to extended life expectancies the longer one exists the less other Beings fear; time being the culprit which leads to the shrinking sense of danger one may incur. Some (consider those who have lived for centuries) reach the point where no such sense exists any longer. They have lived such a long life that there are those who have forgotten what fear feels like thus without that sense there is no instinct to warn of danger. They rely, solely, upon their extraordinary senses, heightened sight, hearing, and such but without instinctual feelings, they are at a grave deficit.

Vampyres are most notorious for falling into that trap, for theirs is a long and arduous journey through many Human lifetimes. Too, while the Werewolf is no' immortal but enjoys longevity well beyond Human years, some will also lose the instinct to determine what is or is no' very real danger. Few Humans ever lose that instinct and because of it they are more apt to survive a natural existence than other Kinds.

Down through the ages Warlocks and Sorceresses were also notorious for becoming so self-absorbed in believing their powers and strengths set them above others that many fell victim to that belief. The more powerful one becomes the more overly confident one becomes and the more likely one is to place oneself in harms way. 'Tis those, grandious feelings and overconfidence, which become the bane of the existence of many of us.

Humans are often jealous of the extraordinary abilities of others, and fear those as well but in truth 'tis those gifts which often turn on us and become our curses; often, our death sentence. As we often teach our young there is reason for all things, why we have gifts others do no' have; why others are no' possessed of specific gifts or abilities. 'Tis the differences in each Kind which make us who and what we are and 'tis how it was meant to be. As we all attempt to learn to interact with one another 'tis imperative to work around and past petty jealousies, suspicions, and the like and we can only do that by working to understand and accept one anothers differences as being a natural part of that particular Kind.

We have worked long and hard to bring that acceptance about and there is much work to be done. But we are seeing some positive results. 'Tis what we, here at the Lair, are all about; furthering understanding and acceptance. 'Twill always be the nay-sayers and the non-believers but with the progression of time and modern, forward thinking we can achieve our goals. Those of you who visit this Blog are part of the trend in forward thinking and together we can teach that certain fears are groundless.

Always remember that a certain amount of fear is healthy; neccessary to one's survival. But that fear should no' extend to other areas simply because of what is no' known. Learn; for there are those of us willing to teach and demonstrate that we are no' 'monsters' without conscience. We, too, seek a safe and healthy existence and are willing to have you join with us in that effort. Fair Day, Gregory.
